Properties Magazine's May issue features Kent State University’s Williams Hall as the first step in KSU’s multi-phase upgrade of their science buildings. VAA converted the Williams Hall third floor library and support spaces into a multi-discipline lab for bioengineering and wet biology. The design provides a flexible, open layout adaptable for future uses. To accomplish this task, our team utilized best practices in modular lab design, met with researchers to understand needs, and incorporated state-of-the-art technology to enhance lab flexibility and attract highly acclaimed researchers. Laurel School’s Alice Lehmann Butler Center for Fitness and Wellness, which was recently awarded LEED Silver certification, was featured on the cover of November’s Properties Magazine. VAA served as the Architect on this 12,000 SF facility on Laurel’s Butler Campus.
Higher Education Excellence
Properties Magazine highlighted Bay Mechanical & Electrical Corporation’s Awards of Excellence in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering for CSU’s Julka Hall. The firm was awarded the Chairman’s Cup by Associated Builders and Contractors at its 2011 Excellence in Construction Awards gala. VAA was a consultant to NBBJ on this award winning project.
Secure Research Environment Development
VAA was the Architect on OSU’s new Plant and Animal Agrosecurity Research Facility at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center. The new facility is one of only two in the nation where animal research can be conducted in a Level 3 secure building. The Wooster Daily Record article explains more about this exciting new facility.
Proud CM Partner
VAA was a proud member of the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Justice Center construction management team. The $183 million, 630,000 SF facility just achieved LEED Silver certification. Learn more about this facility in the July 2011 edition of Properties Magazine.

Pushing for LEED Gold
Properties Magazine's July issue features the Cleveland Convention Center and Global Center for Health Innovation. As part of the design and construction management team, VAA provided Architectural, Interior Design, LEED certification and Construction Management services for this project. As Design Build Manager, VAA coordinated the numerous A/E firms involved in the preconstruction process. We provided design services for the Concession Stands, Leasing Plans, Administrative Offices, and FF&E package. VAA was also responsible for ensuring that the project achieves its sustainability goals which Chris Dewey discusses with Properties on page 39 of this month’s issue.
Beaumont Breaks Ground
VAA is currently managing the STEM building addition and several renovations on the Beaumont School campus. We broke ground yesterday and are excited to start the construction phase of the project!
Cleveland Convention Hotel for Cuyahoga County
VAA is excited to be on the Design-Build team for the County Hotel and is looking forward to working with the same team from the Cleveland Convention Center and Global Center for Health Innovation. We welcome the Hilton to downtown Cleveland and look forward to promoting additional growth and tourism in the area that we are proud to call home!
