Embracing the Future: Key Insights from Autodesk University 2023

In a showcase of innovation and collaboration, Mike Maglic, RA, and John Kaminski, AIA, recently attended Autodesk University 2023 in Las Vegas, NV. This premier event brought together leaders and professionals in architecture, engineering, construction, and other design fields, to share ideas, advance industry practices, and explore opportunities for the future. As they reflect on their experience, we are excited to share the top takeaways from the conference and how these insights will be incorporated into practices heading into 2024.

Design Efficiencies: A Gateway to Innovation

One standout tool discussed at the conference was Forma, a platform designed to enhance design efficiency. Our team recognized the need to meet the accelerating demand for faster, more sustainable, cost-effective, and high-quality designs. By incorporating Forma into their workflow, they aim to harness its capabilities to elevate their design processes and take their projects to new heights.

The strategic use of Forma aligns with the overarching goal of responding to industry demands for increased efficiency without sacrificing the quality of design. This tool will enable us to optimize their workflows, fostering a more iterative and dynamic approach to design.

Sustainability: A Non-Negotiable Imperative

As the urgency to address climate change grows, our team absorbed critical insights into the role of sustainability in the AEC industry. With buildings accounting for almost 40% of global carbon emissions annually , they recognize the imperative for radical change in how projects are designed and built.

In response, our firm is prioritizing sustainable design thinking in our practice. We aim to integrate sustainable practices into every stage of our projects, from conception to completion, while keeping costs down for our clients. By embracing a holistic approach, we seek to contribute to the industry-wide effort to minimize environmental impact and create a more sustainable future.

Charting Our Course into 2024: The Fusion of Innovation and Ethics

As Maglic and Kaminski return from Autodesk University 2023, they are armed with the knowledge and inspiration needed to propel our practice into the future. With a focus on enhanced design efficiency through Forma, and an emphasis on sustainability, we are on a path to meeting the evolving demands of the industry.

In 2024, our leadership envisions working towards a practice that not only embraces technological innovation but also upholds environmental responsibility. By striking a balance between creativity, efficiency, and sustainability, we aim to help shape a more resilient and forward-thinking AEC industry.
