FIRM HISTORY

Van Auken Akins Architects LLC was established in May, 1992 by Jacqueline V. Akins to provide architectural, planning and interior design services to both the public and private sectors.

Organized as a sole proprietorship, the firm is certified as a Female Business Enterprise with the Ohio Department of Administrative Services EDGE program, the Cleveland Municipal School District, City of Cleveland, County of Cuyahoga, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, Central Ohio Transit Authority, The Ohio Turnpike Commission, Ohio Department of Transportation, Ohio Department of Purchasing, Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority, Cleveland Hopkins International Airport Department of Port Control, Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, and the Columbus Public Schools.

Today, Van Auken Akins Architects’ staff consists of four registered architects, four staff architects, three interior designers, one CADD manager and two administrators. Our new design projects for the past fourteen years have exceeded $500 million in construction.

Our clients benefit from our diversified project background and areas of expertise. Van Auken Akins’ projects include specialized types of construction such as science and research facilities, health care centers, correctional institutions and airports. Our designs for education include a field house, auditorium and classroom building, arts and technology facility, primary wing, student union, dormitories, lecture halls, classrooms and administrative buildings. We design office buildings, industrial properties, retail developments, restaurants and banquet facilities, and a variety of residential properties.

We meet design schedules and operate within prescribed budgets. We ask our clients to be a part of our design team. We believe active client participation in the design process is important - not only to the success of the project, but to ensure the client has a complete understanding of the property they help create.
